If we refuse to fight, or support those who do, we are disobeying Allah. I know none of us wants to do that.

It's interesting how my words were misinterpreted here. Though, unfortunately, it's not surprising.
Jihad primarily refers to an internal struggle, but military jihad is sometimes called for. The rules of jihad are strict: no civilian deaths or injuries; no unnecessary destruction of property; no poisoning of water supplies; fair treatment for prisoners of war (and no recognition of a category such as "enemy combatants).
Warfare is a last resort for true Muslims. But when all other options have failed, military jihad may be necessary.
