Muslim woman defends oppression of women

The founder of Islamic Networks Group, Maha Elgenaidi, will be advocating Islam as, "a gift of God's mercy to humankind," at the Divinity school of the Pacific in Berkeley on 1/30/08.

Ms. Elgenaidi, who emigrated to the U.S. from Egypt at the age of 24 by way of a student visa, confesses on her website that her, "greatest challenge was working with Muslim (men) who consigned the role of women to raising children at home." She also states that while employed in Egypt, in a clerical capacity, she was not allowed to speak in the presence of men. She was instructed to speak in all of the "women's committees" she liked. Ms. Elgenaidi, also relates that, after moving to the U.S. she "very quickly learned about the rights of women here and the (subjugated) role of women in Islam." She also states that she, "learned to fight back (against her oppressors) and hold her ground."
Why then, I ask you, is she running around spouting off to anyone who will listen about how great Islam is?!! I'll tell you why. She's getting a higher ticket price for her show than many a fine rock star! How nice for her that she has been able to work a profitable angle out of her Muslim life experience. For money, she is willing to continue to call herself a Muslim, and claim that she likes it, as long as she doesn't have to live in a Muslim country.
